WINDSOR CASTLE PARK: THE ADLER FAMILY IN SMITHFIELD
I grew up in Poquoson, Virginia--a small coastal city nestled in between Hampton and Yorktown. I moved there from Hampton a few weeks after I turned nine. Thinking back on my certain aspects of my childhood in Poquoson, now as a 31 year old woman, I have to admit that it was ideal. (Although nine year old Lindsay would disagree).
I lived in a quaint neighborhood with a great group of children. One day a family moved into one of the best houses in the neighborhood (it had a fabulous in-ground pool surrounded by trees; it felt like a fantastic hidden lagoon), and with their arrival, a new chapter in our neighborhood. This family had four children to add to the mix--most notably sisters, Melissa and Beth. If I went to my own family photographs, I would find their sweet faces next to mine in memories past. As such is life, people continue to move, change, and forge their own paths. Us girls grew into teenagers, college students, employees, and now, all three of us are wives who live in the Hampton Roads area.
One of the greatest gifts I've had in becoming a photographer has been to be reacquainted with so many faces that feel like home. Old friends, peers, classmates; I've been fortunate to have had an incredible support system from Poquoson. I feel so indebted to the people who have had a hand in this journey of mine. So when Melissa invited me into her home last year, and again to photograph her family this fall, it felt more personal; these weren't just any family sessions.
Melissa has been at two weddings I photographed this year. She and her husband Zack are my favorite wedding guests of all time. They know how to D.A.N.C.E. (So much so, that I came home to my husband whining that he needed to get some moves like Zack, STAT!) I love watching them, and I especially love to photograph them.
A word on Zack: Even though I haven't known him as long as I've known Melissa, it doesn't matter. It wouldn't matter if someone randomly knocked on his door right now just to say hello. Zack is quite possibly one of the most genuinely down to Earth, extraordinarily friendly, fun-loving human beings I have ever met, and has the ability to make you feel like you've known him your entire life. He is like a spruced up Andrew WK-- and will get any party started. When you're around Zack, there is literally no choice but to be his friend and have a good time. He also happens to be one of the most wonderful fathers I have ever seen.
Together, Melissa and Zack are the proudest parents to the sweetest little girl. To say these two adore this little girl would be a massive understatement. Melissa is a beautiful mother, who impresses me with how gorgeous and easy she makes it all look. Her easy-going attitude, self confidence, and willingness to have a good time made for the most beautiful photographs of a little family, on a truly spectacular fall afternoon. I could not have asked for a better session.
Thank you, M&Z. (And of course Little M too!)
