In the last few months I've been able to shoot at some of Virginia and Washington DC's most gorgeous venues. From The Anderson House in DC to the historic Jefferson Hotel in Richmond; the classic Hermitage Museum & Gardens, to the more modern Mill at Fine Creek, each wedding has been uniquely beautiful, and has kept me inspired!
This sweet couple, Hannah and Mike, are getting married at yet another well-known and beautiful location next spring-- Mankin Mansion in Richmond!
Side Note: I LOVE that I've shot so many engagements/weddings & families in Richmond!
When we met up for their engagement session, our common goal to have a relaxed afternoon at places where the couple feels most at ease; where they are at their most authentic. More and more I am turning away from a traditional portrait session, and encouraging the couples I work with to come up an activity-- almost like a date -- that they can take part in, and I can photograph.
This doesn't mean that I don't take what I call 'Camera Aware' (IE: looking directly at the camera, smiling) images. I do! I think these are very, very important.
It does mean that the day flows a bit more smoothly, I get to know the couple in an atmosphere which puts less pressure on them, and we almost always have a ton of fun. They're learning about me too!
In getting to know Hannah and Mike, I discovered that they have a huge heart for ministry, and work together in the field. Their wedding will blend in aspects of that part of their relationship--with friends, family, and other cultural aspects from Latvia, where they have spent a portion of each summer for the last nine years!
I also got to know Coach, who was ever the gentleman!
Hannah, Mike, and I took photos at the home they will share once they're married, at Bryan Park, where they often go on walks with Coach, and at the Pipeline-- an area Mike discovered and suggested we go, making it an adventure for us all! (Especially Hannah, in her heels! She was the BEST sport!)
On this gorgeous fall afternoon, we had a great session, leaving me excited and so looking forward to what's to come at their wedding this spring!
Cheers to Hannah & Mike!
