Ashley and James aren't average, nor is their story typical.
I like that.
I like the way James addressed Ashley as his love throughout our entire session, and how proud he is of his family. I also like that James couldn't keep his hands off of Ashley; that their chemistry together is palpable. From our time together one factor became quite clear: this man is clearly in love with his wife.
Another obvious take-away is that Ashley is strong, centered, and laser-focused; all traits I find admirable. She's beautiful, and has a great smile; one that is especially bright when she's sharing a genuine moment with her husband, and their sweet little baby boy.
Together, this little family is building their life. In the last month, they've purchased a new home, and in October will be celebrating their marriage officially with a wedding at The Hermitage in Norfolk!
We took some time to wander the cobblestone streets of downtown Norfolk for a portrait session. We walked past Omar's Carriage House, who will be catering their wedding this fall, all the way to the water's edge, close to where the couple had their first date.
While we did include baby James for a few family portraits, I really wanted to focus on Ashley and James during this exciting time in their lives. (And, let me go on record to say how incredibly HARD it was to stop photographing that little dumpling! Ohh! He's a cutie!)
Logan and I both had such a great time with these two, chatting and enjoying p-e-r-f-e-c-t weather. (Which is now long gone!) Ashley and James' connection is everything I love; it's authentic, spirited, and romantic. It's fun, spontaneous, and passionate. I am so looking forward to their wedding day!
There were so many naturally sweet touches, laughs, and stolen kisses between these two during our session. These are a few of my favorite images.
On a personal note, I am super excited to shoot at the Hermitage! This year I have / will be shooting at a few really fantastic iconic venues in Virginia; the Hermitage definitely is on that list! If you've never visited, you should absolutely check it out. This summer they have Sunsets on the River, where, every other Thursday you can sit on the lawn and enjoy food trucks, live music, tasty drinks, and one gorgeous view. The Hermitage continues to host many events and exhibits throughout the year-- my favorite being last year's Bruce Munro exhibition, which was simply magical!
